Contagion - A Reflection

I've just watched the film "Contagion," made in 2011 and I want to reflect a little about the film since it's been particularly relevant to what the media actively discusses today. This film is about a deadly virus, spreading sporadically across the world. This virus is extremely contagious and is very new to humans. In the film, the government is trying to conceal the people's news about the virus, however reports of this virus have begun to spread and people have found out. The planet then entered a state of turmoil as people began starving for food and medication.

I was a little agitated and troubled when watching this film because it closely mirrored the actual situation we deal with today. As many are aware, there exists a rising pandemic and global quarantine by the name of COVID-19). This virus has several connections in the film with the virus as both viruses impact the respiratory system, all spread by contact with people and contacting their faces. They rapidly spread and took the lives of many.

I also found it particularly  interesting that the precautions the people took in the film were similar to those now being taken by all the different countries. For instance, in the film, people were quarantined, education facilities were shut down, people were advised to refrain from touching their faces, and social distancing was advised. We are taking the same steps now. The only difference between film and reality is they've found a cure in the film, that unfortunately, we cannot find to this day.
